Ranthambore National Park is situated
in Sawai Madhopur a small town. This
park is India’s finest example
of Project Tiger. The history and
forest have come together to create
an amazing landscape in this park.
This park, in its old days was the
Royal Hunting Reserve of Jaipur Maharajas.
Ranthambhore National Park spans an
area of about 400 sq km and was declared
a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and as
a National Park in 1980.
It is dry and deciduous with dhok
(Anogeissus pendula) trees as the
main vegetation which is an important
fodder tree for animals. Among the
more fascinating features of Ranthambhore
are the banyan trees, some of which
are known to be at least 800 years
old.
