Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
is named after India's best-known
ornithologist.
The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
is located in Goa and is within walking
distance from the ferry wharf at Chorao.
Spread over a very small area of
1.8 square Kms, on the western tip
of the island of Chorao along River
Mandovi, mangrove swamps cover this
bird-watchers' paradise.
Apart from a rich variety of coastal
birds, one may spot flying foxes,
jackals and crocodiles.
Inside the Salim Ali Bird
Sanctuary a watch tower is
built for the better view of the birds
and other species found in here.
The Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary
is open to visitors throughout the
year.
