Thattekad Bird Sanctuary
is located in the Kothamangalam Taluk
of Ernakulam district on the northern
bank of the Periyar river. The Thattekad
Bird Sanctuary was notified
in 1983 based. The Thattekad
Bird Sanctuary is known to
be the Home for the rarest kind of
species of the birds. It is the richest
bird habitat in peninsular India,
comparable only with the eastern Himalayas.
The total area covered by Thattekad
Bird Sanctuary is 25.16 sq.
km. The land is mainly forest type
Tropical semi-evergreen and tropical
deciduous.
The wildlife besides the birdlife
spotted here is Elephant, Leopard,
Sloth Bear; Porcupine.
